About Cathy
Cathy McHorse is a dedicated advocate for expanding access to high-quality early childhood education for all children in our community. Most recently, she coordinated the Travis County Affordable Childcare Now Coalition and campaign, successfully securing voter approval for a $75 million annual local investment in affordable childcare.

During her tenure at United Way for Greater Austin, Cathy led transformative initiatives, including the Success by 6 Coalition's strategic plan and implementation. She also founded Early Matters Greater Austin, an alliance of business leaders championing early education, and established a Pre-K Partnership between United Way and the Austin Independent School District (AISD).

Cathy currently chairs the City of Austin Early Childhood Council and actively contributes to the boards and committees of local and statewide organizations. Passionate about addressing the market challenges of affordable childcare, Cathy is committed to driving innovative, actionable solutions to support working families and strengthen the community.
Cathy is a graduate of Duke University and received her M.Ed at the University of Texas at Austin.
